WE ARE:

FA4 COLLECTIVE

We are passionate about creating spaces that engage, educate, provoke thought and reflection, and consciously activate positive social change through interpersonal interactions and dialogue. It is our goal to grow and develop in our ability to empower ourselves and our communities through our interdisciplinary and intellectually driven collaboration and curation.

Fa4 collective has roots in the BFA art studios of California State University Long Beach.
In 2014, a cohort formed and began curating shows throughout Long Beach to support one another and sustain a strong creative practice.

The collective has grown to be a diverse, multidisciplinary force. We host meetings and open critiques to freely and actively discuss topics for current art projects, individual viewpoints, and conscious facilitation of space that values all input and ideas.

OUR CURATORIAL PROCESS

Socially conscious, community oriented, engaging, co-creative and thought provoking. Our most recent residency ‘Ganas de Existir!’ with Angels Gate Cultural Center honored our Latinx backgrounds and shared heritage. Eighteen artists shared their personal histories of growing up in first and second generation migrant families. Each artist’s work was a glimpse into their worldview with the intention of humanizing the marginalized, fostering understanding, building bridges of empathy, and imagining the possibilities of unity to abolish racism, xenophobia, and ethnocentrism.

Through a magnificent interactive display of visual expression, audiovisual installation, mixed media sculpture , performance, and poetry we expressed pride in our origins and emphasized the importance of visibility. The opening and culminating evenings of our residency were blessed through sacred ceremony led by local Tongva and Mexica native leaders.
