"Skews Right" was started in May of 2020, and took six months to complete. I tend to use my paintings as an outlet for my mental climate. I didn't intend to use the colors red and blue initially, but laughed at the irony while finishing it during the election. It was impossible for me not to ignore the uncertain energy of this dystopian time. The inter-twining organic forms are difficult to separate; entrenched in their own biases and experiences yet coexisting in one realm. This mental landscape represents personal complexities and self-reflection as a voyeur and participant of a strongly divided nation. There is a heaviness to the bottom right quadrant of the composition . I find it interesting that it skews to the right while serving as the literal bluest section of the work. It nods to my belief that the United States' two-party system is not effective in fairly offering fit candidates and robs individuals from thinking independently and critically. A partisan lense is worn by the majority of the American people instead of their moral compass. Although I feel largely out of control when it comes to humans' logical reasoning, weaving painted forms together offers an immediate resolve for my fatigued psyche. I cannot detach myself from my reality and responsibilities in this world no matter how much I disassociate. However, I am keen on visually representing my anxieties and thought-strings to create something appealing - or even beautiful - out of mental unease.

Kadie DiCarlo creates mental landscapes with heavy atmosphere and linear abstraction in an attempt to untangle her inner chaos.
